Introduction
When time to market is everything, you need a system that enables you to keep pace with change.

Mneme is an Oracle-based multilingual translation memory network developed by Logos. Linked to Logosys, our web-based central enterprise workflow management system, and also the Logos on-line multilingual dictionary and Wordtheque, Mneme offers highly optimised pretranslation capabilities by integrating information from both sources in one highly organised network-centric repository that stores your translated content for future use, tracking all changes to your content and making updates simple and fast.

Evolution of our approach to Translation Memory (TM)
Those of us who were around when TM technology first hit the streets would have to agree that it was hardly an overnight success. The astronomically high price tag didn't help, nor did the expensive, snail-paced hardware required to run it. This, along with the prevalent reluctance on the part of translators to embrace anything technical, delayed general acceptance of TM by years. However, Logos was quick to see the potential benefits and, while Trados and IBM noisily waged their David & Goliath struggle, we quietly developed our own internal TM tool, appropriately named Mneme after the Greek Muse of Memory.

Logos favours an ethical approach
As other companies were eventually to do with proprietary TM systems, Logos made our tool, Mneme, available to the wider translation community. However, what sets Logos apart and - in keeping with our ethos - our tool is offered free of charge together with our unrivalled reference facilities. This approach not only promotes wider use of TM technology, it also enables those translators living in developing countries to employ tools and resources free of charge that they might not otherwise be able to afford. Our community platform at www.logos.net empowers everyone equally to have thepossibility to join a professional virtual language community and share knowledge and expertise.

Open architecture
Unlike the commercial offerings of the time, Mneme was designed with open architecture in mind, which meant that we could eventually integrate it with Logosys, the nerve center of our operation.

Mneme and Logosys offer a powerful change-management system that Streamlines localization because Mneme stores and leverages your translation memory, glossaries and terminology in an online OracleTM database, making updates fast, accurate, and cost effective.

Since the database is online, you have access to your information when and where you want it, affording you unparalleled control of your translation and update requirements. Highly optimized filtering, segmenting and pre-translation functions meet today's challenges of managing multilingual content.

In addition, Mneme offers translators and clients access to industry-specific glossaries, to ensure appropriate and consistent terminology. Our open-architecture approach not only resulted in Logos being the first company to achieve a central TM repository with distributed Web-access, it also means that our R&D people are able to constantly Develop new ways of using TM data. Nothing illustrates this better than Global-Ref, a solution that enables our clients to re-use their translation and authoring history.

Although Mneme is fully compatible with all leading TM systems, including Trados, our production team has expert knowledge of all TM tools currently in use.
