E-term web based terminology management
In our globalized economy every industrial company needs a terminology policy and a way of handling terminology resources. There are two ways of achieving these aims. One is for leading members of a company's staff to devote valuable time and effort for several months, with a lot of false starts, to getting into place something that may end up being cumbersome or unworkable. The other way is to ask Logos to hand you the solution on a plate. The ability to move terminology access from local networks to the Web is now a reality.

This is how it works.
Your corporate terminology is stored on a dedicated Web server along with a customized user interface and Help guide. Any glossaries that you may already have created within your organization would be integrated into this terminological database. It is now generally recognized that the most efficient and cost-effective method of managing corporate content is to provide a central repository with distributed access. This access may be distributed among several departments in a single corporate entity, several corporate entities in the same country or, with increasing globalization, several entities in several countries. This is precisely what Logos E-Term delivers.
You decide who has access to the system. For example, you might define the following: a guest user with read-only access, a user who may enter terms for approval, a reviewer with access for editing, deletion and approval. A statistics option is also available for monitoring the number of guest or authorized glossary users.
Again, the amount of detail entered for each term is entirely up to you. For example, you may wish to include subject, definition, etymology, cross-reference, phonetics, grammar, abbreviated forms, antonyms, synonyms, or a URL. You could even add images, sound attributes, contextual and external links, and credits (i.e. the name of the person who has validated a term, complete with his or her contact information).
Every time a new term is posted on the system, a notification email is automatically sent to all those collaborating in building up and validating your terminology.
A highly customizable tool enables the downloading of bilingual glossaries whenever requested by an authorized member of your staff. Your reviewers can also work on glossaries off-line, using a specially developed program. Once the glossary has been revised it can then be uploaded again. Consensus is essential when establishing corporate terminology and, therefore, an online forum is available to discuss queries for terms not yet included in the glossary, or not translated.
In-context reference is invaluable for any terminological activity and, if you wish, we can create a company-specific electronic archive of your documents with an indexed link between these documents and your terminology.
Logos E-Term also provides links directly to other Logos web resources, such as the Logos Dictionary and the Logos Wordtheque.

E-Term is not an off-the-shelf, one-size-fits-all application. There are probably as many versions as there are clients. An example is the recent E-term solution that we developed for UNI, the Italian Standards Organization:
