The Logos Group, a translation and localization services provider, announced
that of Traducciones Continental SL, a translation company from the Basque
Country in Spain, has become the latest member of the Logos group.
Bitez SL, the Spanish subsidiary of Logos, acquired 55% of the corporate capital
of Traducciones Continental SL, of Bilbao, partly through the issue of new stock
and partly through the purchase of some of the shares of Oscar Laita, proprietor
of Traducciones Continental. Laita has also exchanged some of his shares for
shares in Logos SpA.
Traducciones Continental was founded in 1945 by Laita's father, Alberto Laita.
Laita, a translator of German, French and Portuguese, took over management of
the company in 1981. Apart from Laita himself, the full-time staff of
Traducciones Continental consists of an English translator, a computer engineer,
and three clerical staff.
The turnover is around half a million euro a year. There are an estimated 1,500
clients, including the Basque regional government.
Logos SpA already owns companies in a number of countries, including Spain,
Italy, France, Belgium, Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States of
America.
The group's central production unit in Modena houses one of the world's largest
concentrations of translators and computer-assisted translation systems,
including the Wordfast translation tool; Logos's own translation project
software, Logosys; and a proprietary translation database system, Mneme.
